About Me

"I want to explore beautiful and surreal theme." I said when I talked about my first art project "The Duel Face", "...therefore my theme is about dream."

"But, art is not merely about beautiful things." Ryan, my art teacher, replied.

On the stage, I was confused.

However, I gradually diverted from dreamy yet indifferent subjects as I felt more interested in topics on realistic world issues. A documentary about Chinese manufactured landscape under modernization, a cartoon about the problems of mass consumption caused by fashion industry, or a book about the history of compulsory schooling system can inspire and shape my view toward the world.

I began to realize that artists express their opinions through application of art. When Pablo Picasso painted Guernica, he was revealing about the suffer of his country Spain was experiencing. When Britain street artist Banksy injected black humor into his stencil printing, he was exposing the imperfection of the world. When the India choreographer Mallika Sarabhai danced on the TED conference, she revealed the sad story of extremely high rape rate in India.

"In the world where opinions are so hard to change, art is one of the most powerful tools to reach people's heart." Her speech strucked me.

"If I can put my thinking into my work, it will find friends." I said to myself. I decided to extend my themes beyond aesthetical pleasure. I explored anti-war theme when I make painting The Great, the Aimed and mask The War Mask. I concerned about my friends who went on strict diet to lose weight, so I created Fashion Overtones. A park nearby my home was blocked by real estate company because it was building estates inside the Park, and I made the drawing of A Closure to Sightseers, an Invitation to Thieves.  I am also working on a painting of shark fin soup because I want to present this work on my art exhibition in May next year, so that viewers can be informed of the connection between our cultural practice and shark species' extinction.

Some of my artworks are not about heavy subjects. In Digital Mosaic, I spent collecting two thousand photos of me levitating in every places I have visited. I not only invited my friends and parents to take levitation photo, but also put my photos on my blog and introduced this technique to people who share the same interest in photography. In the work of Famous Work Remake, I recognized the similarity of eternal theme between Leger and Ingres despite their dissimilar styles of art. I found Leger's style very interesting, so I experimented and transfered Ingres 's painting "The Odalisque" into Leger's style.

As I am exploring visual art, I gradually embrace the social purpose of art as well as the artistic interpretation of reality and come to believe that I have an obligation to express my view through the power of art.
